We’ve rolled out a powerful new feature to complement your existing self-service editing capabilities: an in-line editor. You’ll see this new ‘Refine’ capability when you hover over a Variant that allows you to:
Input a free-form prompt to update language so can request specific, targeted updates
Leverage 4 quick-actions pre-built by Persado: Rewrite, Shorten, Elaborate, and Bulletize
View changes to Compliance, Performance, and Brand Alignment scores before you apply updates so you understand the impact.
Here’s how to use this feature in your day-to-day content generation.
Using the Chat-Style Inline Editor
Hover over any touchpoint and click ‘Refine’ to view the in-line editor. You’ll see the following options:
A Freeform Prompt: Type in any requests for updates. Specificity is key!
‘Rewrite:’ Preserve the meaning while changing the wording.
‘Shorten:’ Reduce the length without changing the meaning.
‘Elaborate:’ Add only supported clarifications.
‘Bulletize:’ Restructure the existing supported content without introducing new information.
Regardless of which option you choose, Persado’s AI will generate 1 alternative per request as shown below. You can click ‘Try Again’ to view additional options in the same browser session, which you can toggle through in the top left corner of the widget.
Generated alternatives remain available even if you close and reopen the Inline Editor for the same touchpoint within the current browser session, including after viewing other Variants within the same result set. The alternative history is only cleared once you apply an alternative, refresh the page, navigate away from the current playground, or close the tab/browser.
Here are the rules that run behind the scenes to generate alternatives. Persado’s AI:
✅ Avoids returning identical or near-identical alternatives when other valid alternatives are available.
✅ Preserves the primary message, offer, and call to action unless you explicitly request a change (for example, in the freeform prompt).
✅ Remains grounded in the selected touchpoint, campaign inputs, and available account context.
✅ Does not introduce unsupported claims, offers, pricing, eligibility, urgency, products, or other compliance-sensitive information.
✅ Continues to follow account brand guidelines, required legal/compliance language, and touchpoint-specific behavior.
✅ Does not pull claims from another touchpoint your prompt explicitly references that touchpoint.
When you’re happy with the changes, click the blue ‘Replace’ button to automatically update the Variant.
The new Variant will be updated in the queue based on its revised Performance Score, with high performers being listed first. If needed, you can use the ‘Revert to Original’ function to undo the edits and restore the touchpoint to its original state.
FAQs
How should I use the Freeform Prompt?
The requests you enter in the Freeform Prompt should be clear and specific. The more context and direction you provide, the better the AI can tailor the result. If there isn’t enough context to make a meaningful refinement, the generated alternative may remain similar to the original.
If you need inspiration, copy and edit any of the prompts below—but more importantly, try things out! The Freeform Prompt is meant to be agile and flex to your needs.
Make the tone more [formal, casual, comforting, playful]
Add a sense of urgency to encourage immediate action
Remove the introductory clause and start directly with the offer
Change the casing to [Title Case, Sentence Case]
Rephrase this to appeal to [audience e.g., first-time buyers] who haven't tried the product yet
Emphasize [a particular benefit] of the product
Here are a few things you won’t be able to do with the Freeform Prompt:
Bypass brand or compliance constraints: This includes adding a word that is included in the disallowed values for your brand.
Infer missing pricing, dates, eligibility, conditions, or offer scope: All details must be provided by you; our AI won’t make any assumptions here, so be specific!
Ask it to increase the scores of the message: Our AI uses the specifics you provide in order to improve the message in a way that suits your campaign’s context, so you can’t ask it directly to increase scores. Instead, describe the changes you would like to see, and the changes in scores will be listed for you.
I’m not able to generate an alternative for a specific touchpoint. Why is that?
When no alternative can be generated because the request cannot be completed safely or logically, the Inline Editor will notify you as shown below.
In these cases, refresh the page and try again.
When should I use the Freeform Prompt vs. existing style capabilities?
Existing capabilities like Campaign Tone or Target Segment define the overall generation context, while the Freeform Prompt is for targeted refinements to a specific touchpoint after generation, without having to regenerate the full set.
Why can’t I use the ‘Bulletize’ option?
Bulletize is only available for touchpoint types that support bullets and when the content contains at least 2 distinct points that could be bulleted. For this reason, you won’t see this capability on touchpoints like CTAs or in SMS/Push.
