If you’re running different types of campaigns within Portal (e.g., marketing vs. servicing communications), you’ve probably run into this challenge: what is considered an appropriate tone of voice can differ substantially depending on the objective, audience, or channel.
We’ve rolled out the ability to configure multiple tones of voice per account so you can address exactly this in two simple steps:
Provide tone of voice information to the Persado Team, and then…
Toggle on your desired tone while you’re generating content as usual.

Provide Tone of Voice Information to the Persado Team
If you’ve provided style guidelines in the past, this process is the same! To use this feature, provide the following information to the Persado Team:
Tone of voice documentation: Any documentation or formatting rules your team already refers to for specific tones of voice. Recommendations are particularly helpful (e.g., “Our tone is conversational, without sounding overly casual.”).
Segment/audience-based recommendations: Any information on broader campaign themes, specific audiences you’re targeting, or other communications you plan to send using this particular tone of voice.
Historical content: Examples of past content that you believe accurately represent the tone you’d like to achieve.
What you CAN’T say: Any marketing or legal words and/or phrases that are not allowed when leveraging a particular tone of voice.
Our Content Intelligence team will then customize your instance of Portal to add the new tone of voice as a dropdown option, so you can select it when generating content.
Leverage Tones of Voice in Studio
Proceed to generate or improve content in your desired channel. When inputting your campaign details, you’ll see ‘Tone of Voice’ as a new toggle under the ‘General Info’ section. Select your desired tone of voice for the campaign based on the options you’ve configured with the Persado team, then fill out your details before clicking ‘Generate.’
Pro-Tip: Target Segment, Style Set, and Tone of Voice might sound similar, but they offer distinct capabilities. You can combine some, or all, of these features based on the needs of each individual campaign:
Target Segment is for generating content for a specific audience and can be set up under ‘Segments’ in Portal.
Style Sets are used for character limits only and can be set up per channel under ‘Brand Management’ → ‘Custom Styles’ in Portal.
Tone of Voice is used when you’re running multiple campaign types within one account, where the appropriate voice shifts by audience, channel, or campaign objective.
Review and edit your Variants as usual. The content you see will reflect the initial guidelines you provided per the tone of voice you selected, but let us know if anything looks off so we can feed that information into the model.
If you ever need to change your tone of voice, use the toggle under the ‘Style Guidelines’ as usual and then click ‘Generate.’ That’s it! Play with your settings as usual to achieve exactly what you’re looking for per campaign.
