Before you begin
This guide shows how to add Persado to a personal ChatGPT account. It takes about 5 minutes. Use it until the Persado app is listed in ChatGPT.
Who this is for: Users with personal ChatGPT plan. On a ChatGPT Business or Enterprise workspace, use the existing ChatGPT admin installation and user installation guides instead.
Key prerequisites:
ChatGPT Plus or Pro. The Free and Go plans can't add custom MCP servers.
ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com) on a computer.
A Persado Portal account. You'll sign in to Persado Portal during setup.

Add Persado to ChatGPT
1. Open Settings
Click your name in the bottom-left corner. Then click ‘Settings.’
2. Open Plugins
In ‘Settings,’ click ‘Plugins.’
3. Add a Custom MCP Server
Click ‘Add.’ Then click ‘Add custom MCP server.’
4. Enter the Server Details
Fill in the form:
Name: Persado
Description: optional
Connection (URL): https://api.persado.com/mcp (include https://)
Authentication: OAuth
5. Set the Advanced OAuth settings
Open ‘Advanced OAuth settings’ and enter:
Registration method: User-Defined OAuth Client
OAuth Client ID: mcp-portal
OAuth Client secret: mcp-portal
Token endpoint auth method: client_secret_post
Leave every other field as it is.
6. Create the Plugin
Tick ‘I understand and want to continue.’ Then click ‘Create as a plugin.’
7. Connect and Sign In
Click ‘Connect Persado.’
The Persado Portal sign-in page opens. Enter your work email and sign in.
8. Check that Persado is Installed
Go to ‘Settings’ → ‘Plugins’ → ‘Personal.’ Persado shows under ‘Created by you.’
9. Start using Persado
Open a new chat. Type @Persado and ask it to score or improve content..
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to do |
No Add custom MCP server option | You're on the Free or Go plan, or on a work workspace. Upgrade to Plus or Pro, or use the admin guides. |
"CIMD is unavailable" message | The registration method is still on the default. Choose User-Defined OAuth Client (Step 5). |
Sign-in fails or shows an error | Check that Client ID and Client secret are both mcp-portal and the token method is client_secret_post. Delete the plugin and add it again. |
The URL is rejected | Use exactly https://api.persado.com/mcp, with https://. |
Persado doesn't answer in chat | Type @Persado to pick it. Check it's listed under ‘Plugins’ → ‘Personal.’ |
