Basic Tips to Keep in Mind
Make sure you've selected the right channel. For example, if you want to generate Web Page content, don’t use the Full Email content generation setting.
If the content isn’t ideal, you don’t need to start again from the beginning. Just click the 'Generate' button again, leaving all the same hints and/or keyphrases on your left-hand sidebar, and you’ll receive more content options. If the content looks off, click 'Generate' again before changing the control or adding more Other Content Considerations.
If the content still isn’t to your liking, change the Other Content Considerations and then click 'Generate' again.
Still not liking what you see? Toggle on/off some of the style guidelines on the left-hand panel. Less restrictive guidelines allow for more creativity and variation in the content you receive. You might get something slightly “off brand” that offers value in terms of creativity and/or performance potential, which you can then make small edits to to fit your voice.
Best Practices for Inputting Keyphrases
As a self-service user, you’ll enter keyphrases to generate outputs from generative AI language models. Good keyphrases capture a campaign’s main theme, product, and/or offer. Keyphrases tend to appear verbatim or near-verbatim in model output, so mastering how to write and include keyphrases will help you achieve the best results for your self-service content.
Avoid "Instructional" Language
Phrase your keyphrases as you would naturally say them as opposed to an instruction, like this:
As opposed to this:
Ditch the Wrong Context
Try to avoid introducing an unwanted tone, concept, or style (e.g., punctuation, emojis) in your keyphrases that you wouldn't want to see reflected in the content.
Include the Right Context
For more tailored messages, include specific context, like:
Who it’s for (the audience):
What makes the product unique or competitive to others in the market (think: adjectives):
Seasonal significance (where and when to use the product):
Be Specific!
Use proper nouns if you have them. This means long keyphrases are okay when the product name is long:
Best Practices for "Improving" Content
When you "improve" content, you start with an existing control. It's important to use a control that is already in market, or one that your copywriting team wrote without the use of Persado tools or insights, as opposed to Persado-generated content. Otherwise, we won't be able to properly compare performance in the market.
We recommend selecting 2 to 4 Variants to test against your control. Ideally, most Variants should have Performance Prediction scores above the control, and language that looks different from the control and from the other Variants. This is the best way to learn what language works best for your brand, and start to build reliable language insights.
Not happy with what you're seeing using the 'Improve' function? Try the 'Generate' function instead. You’ll have more options for how to prompt the model with key information, and might get more creative results.

Tips for Improving Control Messages
Generally, improve outputs draw relevant details from the control messages you provide. To achieve more varied results, try different approaches to your control messages.
Be creative! Think outside the box and use words that may surprise and delight your audience.
Be specific. Use interesting adjectives and highlight the unique value props for your product or offer. This is especially helpful when you’re trying to improve a control message that’s a bit more vague (e.g., “Would you look at that!”).
Add any additional details you’d like to see represented in the output that aren’t already captured in the control under ‘Other Content Considerations.’
Stress less. Just get all your ideas into the input fields and think of yourself as curator and editor of the options Persado provides.
Try Generate to author a control if you get stuck, but only if you don't need to measure the new Variants against the control.
Best Practices for Increasing Variety
If you feel like the Variants you’re seeing are repetitive, try the following to get more variety in your outputs.
Switch up the tone. You can enter custom tones that represent your campaign in the ‘Campaign Tones’ field. Think about what kind of voice will be the most impactful for your audience. For example, see how adding a friendly tone augments the output:
No tone used | Friendly tone |
Check out our new card with no fees today | Exciting news: Our new card is fee-free! |
Our new credit card has 0 fees | Your wallet will love our new no-fee credit card. |
Explore our new no-fee credit card | Say hello to fee-free spending with our new card! |
Remember that the models are tuned to lean most heavily on your brand’s preset tones, and the outputs are prioritized by potential to motivate action (high performance prediction scores), so if you don’t see dramatic tone changes, this is why. You can always click 'Generate' multiple times to see a selection of results.
Highlight text you want to tweak to display an ‘AI Alternatives’ popup which provides you with even more options for content you especially like or would like small revisions to.
Try varying your keyphrases and regenerating. If you see a word or phrase you like, consider entering it into ‘Other Content Considerations.’ Likewise, consider removing or revising any keyphrases that are getting reproduced too much.
Editing Variants and Providing Feedback
Feel free to edit any Variant that doesn’t sound quite right, but be mindful that the Performance Prediction score doesn’t change dramatically. If the score drops substantially, for example, try to find a different Variant instead of editing.
Not sure where to start? You can use AI alternatives to generate more options of your content, and you can also provide feedback on what you'd like to see more or less of for your audience. You can learn more about these content generation features in this article!
